Lauren Mueller is a senior at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, majoring in Communication. As a former foster child, she was honored to receive a full scholarship to the university and has worked tirelessly to get the most out of her education. While at Denison, she has been awarded a Communication Department Fellowship for two years to assist professors with their research goals and the Lindsay Gund Communication and Social Justice Fellowship to attend the Images and Voices of Hope Conference in the fall of 2012. In addition, Lauren is the President of the Delta Upsilon chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the national communication honorary. She is interning for Bad Girl Ventures this summer and is motivated and excited to help get BGV off the ground in Columbus. Lauren is also interning as the operations manager for International Financial Group.
Lauren is an outspoken advocate for the rights of foster children. She has spoken and volunteered at events ranging from 20 people to 2,000 people for National Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), advocating for permanency and an ethic of care in the foster system. Lauren volunteers not only for CASA, but also for several education-focused nonprofits which serve children. In addition, Lauren is a Sexual Harassment and Rape Education (SHARE) Advocate at Denison, which provides resources and assistance for victims/survivors of sexual violence. Lauren is planning a career in corporate giving or large-scale nonprofit work after she graduates in the spring of 2013.
